{"id":6337,"date":"2026-05-17T09:50:48","date_gmt":"2026-05-17T07:50:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fraktalwerk.de\/?p=6337"},"modified":"2026-05-17T11:52:23","modified_gmt":"2026-05-17T09:52:23","slug":"sonja-knoll-visiting-fraktalwerk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fraktalwerk.de\/en\/sonja-knoll-visiting-fraktalwerk","title":{"rendered":"Sonja Knoll visiting Fraktalwerk"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>&#8220;With great joy I accepted an invitation from Berlin to collaborate with Robert Krokowski and Marlen Wagner and to participate in the project \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pavillonsicli.ch\/fr\/evenement\/thomas-hirschhorn\">Simone Weil Pavillon<\/a>\u201d in Geneva\/Switzerland.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The texts taken from the book\u00a0Gravity and Grace\u00a0were partially blacked out (\u201cblack out poetry\u201d) by Robert Krokowski and myself; on the pages edited by me, I left words or parts of sentences unblacked-out that seemed relevant to me or typical of Simone Weil.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Subsequently I intervened in the text by supplementing the pages I had worked on with excerpts from longer quotations by authors writing about her (B\u00f6ll, Camus, T.S. Eliot) or by authors who were an inspiration to her (Teresa of \u00c1vila, Aeschylus, Plato).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Thus, for example, one of the pages whose text by Simone Weil seemed to me personally almost relentless is over-embroidered with a quotation by Heinrich B\u00f6ll referring to Simone Weil: \u201cI am afraid of her severity.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Another over-embroidering reads: \u201cA great spirit of our time,\u201d a quotation by Albert Camus.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>I embroidered these additions over the black-out lines in a script invented by me \u2013 thus fictional \u2013 and some of the pages were provided not only with script signs but also with symbols, and thus commented upon through my perspective.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Both the undecipherability of the alphabet and the commentary-signs designed by me are intended to encourage visitors to engage mentally with the selected free = readable words between the blacked-out passages.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Reading a continuous text probably does not require as much mental energy as the question of what might be hidden \/ blacked out there, what the meaning of the content could be of which only individual parts (words, sentence fragments) are visible.
