Cemetery Day 2025 – A place of remembrance, stories and encounters
Cemetery Day has been held annually since 2001 – a special day that focuses on the importance of cemeteries as places of remembrance, culture and personal stories. In 2025, visitors can once again look forward to a varied programme that invites them to linger, reflect and discover.
Cemeteries are quiet places – and yet full of life. They preserve our memories and tell stories of love, loss, hope and new beginnings.
A special highlight is the story competition, which encourages people to explore themes such as farewell, memory and new beginnings in literary form. Short stories have been selected from numerous submissions and will be presented to the audience in readings.
Actress and narrator Anna Thalbach will read, among other things, the short story ‘Ich hatte einen Traum’ (I had a dream) by Marlen Wagner – a text that explores the fine line between loss and hope.
In addition to the readings, the programme offers many other activities: guided tours, musical performances, workshops and information stands create space for exchange, personal conversations and new perspectives on a place that is much more than just a resting place.
Cemetery Day 2025 invites everyone to engage with the subject of life and death in a new way – openly, creatively and with respect for the stories that connect us.
