Suminagashi – The Japanese art of marbling paper

alt="Fraktalwerk-Workshop Suminagashi the Japanese art of marbling paper">

Try something new, something magical

If you want to try something new and somehow magical this year, how about suminagashi? The traditional Japanese art of marbling paper enchants with its delicate colours and individual prints. Translated, suminagashi means floating ink. This name aptly describes what happens: The ink floats on the water, forming patterns. These patterns are then influenced using various techniques. They are “printed” by removing them with an absorbent paper. Every print is unique!

Once you have dried and ironed the now marbled paper, you can use it in a variety of ways – as wrapping paper, as a base for collages, individual stationery pages, as cover paper for bought or self-made notebooks, for individual artist books

We try out different types of paper: Rice paper, Sumi-e paper, simple copy paper, filter bags, aqua paper … If you would like to bring your own paper and try it out – you’re welcome.
