Artist’s books in leporello structure

Fraktalwerk-Workshop artist's book with Leporello form

Artists’ books
You don’t have to be a bookbinder to make an artist’s book. You need imagination, ideas – and some technique. And, of course, fun and pleasure in actually making something with your own hands.

Artists’ books can have many different shapes and contents, some don’t even look like a book. The Brainbrige Island Museum has collected many unusual book objects – and provides a variety of insights online that can be inspiring for your own work.

Fraktalwerk Workshops
Photographs, drawings, poems, short texts … would you like to present your ideas and results in a beautiful and individualised form? Do your ideas want to take shape – as an artist’s book? Then learn how to make your own personalised artist’s book – in one of the Fraktalwerk bookbinding workshops.

Leporellos (No previous knowledge required; German and English language)
The leporello (or accordion or fanfold) shape offers a wide range of design possibilities. In every variation, the fanfold is the spine of the album which carries it’s individual pages. How they are connected to the spine depends entirely on the idea behind the book.
The aim of the workshop is for you to create a handmade book measuring approx. 15 x 11.5 cm or 11.5 x 15 cm during the workshop and take it home with you at the end. You will learn how to shape and design paper creatively together.

Examples of variations can be found here

What:
We will work on the basic structures of various leporello possibilities. The finished books will have a size of approx. 15 x 11.5 cm.
